#3 FB: Friend or Foe? [QUT OJ1]

Facebook is one of the largest forms of social media to date. Since it's launch in 2004, we have seen it's features grow with instant messaging, status updating, tagging, liking, friend-requesting, photo uploading even poking.

But what goes up must come down, and with these features, along came the controversies. The viruses, the ridiculously-huge parties *cough, Kate's party cough,* the privacy scares, hacking scams and even potential employment termination.

That's right- just like computer technician, Damien O'Keefe who was fired from his employer after posting a status in relation to his work pay. Check out this fellow who was fired from Woolworths after posting a photo of "planking" in the store.

Yes we all use facebook as a "stalking" tool (ok well maybe it's just me) but since when did it become okay for work and play to become intertwined... Should your personal life (including social media profiles) hinder upon your employment? What ever happened to freedom of speech? And sure we use facebook as one of our many methods to complain but at the same time is it okay to post rude- foul mouthed posts about anything and everything?

It is controversial ain't it- I guess all you can do for now is keep all possible-work related posts out of the picture because Big Brother is watching!
