in the corporate world;

I've had a fellow reader ask me personally to touch on "what to wear to work." Here's my take on the corporate world and how a girl should present herself. Enjoy!

First thing is first. What we wear to work is very important- especially if you are the youngest in the office. To gain your employer's respect firstly starts with how you present yourself – to say that appearance didn't matter would be blind and ignorant.

Sadly people do judge you based upon how you present and carry yourself – your abilities and aptitude comes second. Shallow but it's true. In a non-fashion world, being too fashionable can come across as a hinderance since many cannot gather or fathom the current trends. Rather, embrace chic alternatives to the classic and sophisticated to pave your way to true success.

[+] Monochromatic palettes, and the classic black, white and gray always work wonders. Let these be the foundation of your corporate wardrobe. Of course it's not a crime to dress up an outfit with colourful accessories such as bright earrings or an eccentric scarf but keep prints to a minimum and opt for solid coloured pieces.

[+] The classic pump is a best friend to all. Not too high and too low. It is the ultimate corporate 'drobe piece. A symbol of executive power welded by the female in the working world, there is no way you can go wrong with this shoe. Opt for a round or pointed toe for winter/the colder months and a peep-toe heel for the warmer seasons. And remember to keep your twiddly toes pedi-pretty.

[+] Wear these foolproof classics.
White button down shirts; the two top buttons undone, sleeves rolled up casually and tucked into a classic pair of pants.

High waisted skirt or pants; are the perfect addition to a cute blouse paired with a wide belt cinching at the waist.

Blazers; are an absolute wardrobe staple. The black is staple but choosing an unconventional colour such as nude, white, gray or beige adds dimension and depth.

The little black dress; is an iconic piece and a must-have for all working women. Knee length with a modest neckline makes for a feminine approach to the typical pant suit ensemble. Add a belt or a statement necklace piece as accessories.

Wide legged, high-waisted denim trousers; in a dark wash act fashion-forward but not too trendy for the corporate world. Sophisticated and fresh.

Here are some inspired ensembles I prepared earlier:

[touch up your LBD with a bold necklace]
[high waisted-pants are always foolproof]
[nude pumps always add a hint of femininity]

Hope this helps!
